Hand-colored engraved map of New England, New York, New Jersey and part of Canada. Homann was the Imperial Geographer of the Holy Roman Emperor, and he called upon the best sources for this magnificent work. Much was still was unknown about the interior of North America, however, for example, note the too-large Lake Champlain in relation to the Hudson River. Also, the strait cutting through Cape Cod in the Eastham area may actually have existed at the time.

In 1716, Homann published his masterpiece, Grosser Atlas ueber die ganze Welt (Grand Atlas of all the World).
