HENRY SCHENK TANNER.
A Map of the United States including Every county ennumerated in the Census of 1840. Philadelphia, 1841. Unfolded, 63½ x 47¾ in.; dissected into 32 rectangular sections, laid down on linen, with blue silk selvage, folding to small folio size (11⅞ x 7⅞ in.). Lacking original case, but housed in modern black cloth box.
This 1841 edition of the 1829 Tanner map shows considerable Westward expansion with particular detail of the Independent Republic of Texas.
Very good. Original full color, the palette thick and bright. Some overall browning of the sheet, most evident in the lower right panels.
This is the Babinski copy (Swann, December 8, 2005, lot 83).
