This publication is the first time that Moore is identified in print as the author of his famous poem, and the first appearance (other than from almanacs) of the poem in book form. CLEMENT CLARKE MOORE (1779-1863).

William Alexander Duer (1780–1858) was an American lawyer, jurist, and educator from New York City. He was a president of Columbia University, then Columbia College.
